Dongshan Dao
Edit SpotAbout
Locals very friendly, a crowd will gather to watch you surf and when you exit the water they may invite you to their house for tea. Plenty to explore during the day if its flat, nightlife is suprisingly fun, accomodation cheap and seafood right off of the boat.
Additional Info:
Any system in the South China Sea will generate waves, the tide movement is huge so there is always beach break with tidal movement. The island is not very big 25 km from north to south, easy to check multiple beaches in a short time. Winter is extremly windy. We have broken in the moto taxi guys so if you turn up they will know what you want and take you to the right beach.

Hop a direct bus to Dongshan City on Dongshan Island, the town is inland so grab a moto taxi to the beach. On the east coast of Dongshan there are three beaches, the most north beach is full of guesthouses, bars and restaurants. You need to get to the long beach with a fishing village. Its the last beach on the east side. Plenty of fun beach break and one boulder bottom point. On the south side of Dongshan there are also three beaches, sand bottom and a point in each bay plus beach break. If the wind is bad on the east head south its offshore there or vice versa. Night life is Thailand style, moto taxi is 8RMB/1$, seafood is fresh, guesthouse 40RMB night.
