Tanjung A'an
Edit SpotAbout
Three words : tropical, remote, powerful.
Atmosphere:
Surf it all year round : South East swell in winter (rain season), South West swell in summer. A little more windy in summer but all you have to do is come at the MORNING HIGH TIDE.
Security advisory : this is not a beginner's place. No one to rescue you, no public phone (and even if there was one, there is no rescue team around).
Additional Info:
Tanjung A'an is a right pointbreak with live coral reef under your feet. Can be surfed at all tides, all year round, it is VERY SHALLOW at middle to low tide. Tubes anytime.
You will probably park the car in the middle of a ghost holiday resort (old property of Suharto's kids): maybe you will not see no one but if you do, give money to the olders and give pens (PENS !) to the kids, to go to school.
After your session, chances are the locals will have noticed you and come around to see who you are. Take the fresh coconut they will give you, it's absolutely wonderful.

its about 8 km east of Kuta / Lombok cheers. Tanjung A'an ("A'an cape", in indonesian) is a secret spot...
All you can do is get a room South of Lombok island and get around looking for a rocky point West of "Honeymoon beach" and East of "Princess Mandalika bay". One hint : Mandalika is also the name of a good, expensive hotel.
There is no straight road to Tanjung A'an, so don't expect seeing it from the car. Indeed, once you've parked it's only a 15 minutes walk.
Unless you're stupid, Tanjung A'an is easier of access from ground, not by boat.
----------------------------------------
Watch out for heavy Expat locals who think they own the place. Taj, is a VERY, dangerous wave, it's heavy, shallow and the reef is as bad as ive ever seen. An easier description of how to get there is just head for Grupuk and it's the beach just before, about 5 min away. Don't surf it a low tide as you WILL, hurt yourself and that's if the locals let you paddle out in the first place. Apart from Desert point, it really the only truly hollow wave ion Lombok if you ask me. Just watch that reef.
