Guardalavaca

About

It's worth a trip if you can swing it. All Cuba is worth exploring. It certainly does not have the surf of, say, Puerto Rico, but I for one would love to drive around for a month looking.

Atmosphere:
The people are extremely friendly. Cubans are a great bunch (not the government spies, though).

Additional Info:
I hit this spot about 10 years ago on magazine trip that didn't work out (the commies stole all our film). I'm curious wheher anyone else has ever been there. I may have been the first to surf it, The locals thought "surfing" was windsurfing and they kept asking me where the sail was on my board.
Anyeway, it's a big government-run resort, very beautiful beach. Sketchy swell, I think becuase it's blocked by the Turks and Caicos.
