La Couronne
Edit SpotAbout
A very 'original' spot to surf, and due to the difficulties of finding it, chances are that you'll have it to yourself. A great wave, beautiful when glassy and a impressive place to surf - see you there.
Atmosphere:
The most amazing experience to surf a perfect glassy wave, way out at sea, with the land only a distant haze on the horizon. In a disconcerting tranquility, you could be alone in your kingdom.
Not forgetting that the boat you came in serves as a photographers platform. Photographs to record the trip, and to make the dis-belivers believe that you actually surfed there....!!

Make sure of your information about the swell and the tides before heading out. The spot works well only at the beginning of a rising tide, as soon as the water depth is too great the waves no longer break. Avoid tides with big coefficients, and windy days. Given the right swell, the waves will surprise you, with solid sets holding upto 2.5m waves. Given that you are out at sea, make sure you are equiped - lifejackets, wetsuits, warm clothes, portable phone, distress flares etc...

Bit of an epic trip.... its in the middle of the ocean!
There are no signs to lead you there: If you have a GPS find 2,175° West, 47,7° North. Without a GPS, its harder.... you'll need to observer well the sea to find the tell-tale white caps of this spot.... also you'll often find fishermen out around the rock-platform over which the wave breaks - try asking them at the port.
To get there you'll need to have a boat, leave from any of numerous sea-ports in the area or from the island of Noirmoutier, at the Pointe de l'Herbaudière.
